Image 4 is proud to have been a part of preserving the legacy of the New Hampshire National Guard (NHNG) through the creation of a stunning permanent exhibit. This wasn’t just a project; it was a 24-month journey that culminated in the grand opening of a 5,000 square foot space brimming with history in the summer of 2020. This museum design is one of our favorites, and very timely to talk about with the focus on the upcoming July 4th holiday.
The story behind the exhibit is as fascinating as the artifacts themselves. Imagine unearthing treasures from the NHNG’s past, some tucked away in storage for decades. Image 4 embarked on a mission to source and conserve over 500 artifacts, each whispering tales of bravery, service, and sacrifice. These relics span a remarkable period, dating back to pre-revolutionary times and reaching all the way to present-day deployments.
But artifacts alone wouldn’t do justice to the rich tapestry of the NHNG’s history. Image 4 partnered with a respected military historian to unlock the secrets held within these objects. Countless hours were spent meticulously identifying each piece, unearthing the stories they embodied.
The challenge then became bringing these stories to life for future generations. Image 4’s talented team wove a captivating script, crafting an interactive experience museum design that would guide visitors through the NHNG’s remarkable journey. Storyboards were meticulously crafted, ensuring a logical flow that showcased the evolution of the various companies, regiments, and brigades that make up the NHNG.
However, the story wasn’t just told through artifacts. Select photographs and documents were integrated with the physical objects, creating a multi-layered museum design experience for visitors. As they explored the exhibit, they encountered not just objects from the past, but the very essence of the NHNG – the courage, resilience, and dedication of its citizen-soldiers.
The project wasn’t confined to historical research and storytelling. Image 4’s 24,000 square foot shop became a hive of activity. Here, a team of skilled craftspeople took center stage. Their expertise in conceptual design, fabrication, and image production brought the vision to life.
The culmination of these efforts is a permanent exhibit that serves as a powerful testament to the NHNG’s legacy. It’s a place where individual stories of heroism and unit accomplishments are brought to light, fostering a sense of shared history and cultural connection for both visitors and current Guardsmen.
This Independence Day, as we celebrate the freedoms fought for by so many, let us remember the soldiers of the First, Second, and Third New Hampshire Regiments. Their dedication, from the very first skirmishes at Lexington and Concord to the final victory in 1783 at Newburgh, NY, helped lay the foundation for the nation we celebrate today. The New Hampshire National Guard Heritage Project ensures their stories, and the stories of all who served, will continue to inspire future generations.
